Anchorage freelancer Cinthia Ritchie has won the Brenda Ueland Prose Prize, a contest judged by nationally known writers and editors and sponsored by the annual Water~Stone Review, based out of Hamline University, in St. Paul, Minn.

Ritchie, who writes poetry, fiction and a column for the Anchorage Daily News, says she’s “really jazzed,” not only about the award, but also that judge Robert Olen Butler, a Pulitzer Prize-winning fiction author—and favorite author of Ritchie’s—played a role in selecting her work.

The award comes with $500 and publication in the journal. Ritchie’s current work includes poetry in Poems Niederngasse, Stirrings, and Slow Trains Literary Review, with upcoming work (fiction, essays, poetry and erotica) in Cascadia Review, the Water~Stone Review, Sunspinner, Best of Wicked Alice Anthology and the International Journal of Erotica.
