Hear from Billy Collins, Pamela Houston and others at 2005 Writers Conference in Homer

The conference will offer daily workshops, craft talks, manuscript reviews, panel presentations and evening readings in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, the business of writing and more.

The Kachemak Bay Campus of Kenai Peninsula College / University of Alaska Anchorage will hold the 2005 Kachemak Bay Writers’ Conference June 10-14, at Land’s End Resort in Homer, announces Carol Swartz.

Giving the keynote presentation will be Billy Collins — a former US Poet Laureate (2001-3) about whom John Updike once said: “Billy Collins writes lovely poems...Limpid, gently and consistently startling, more serious than they seem, they describe all the worlds that are and were and some others besides.”

The conference will also feature 20 others, including noted authors, editors, publishers and agents from throughout Alaska and the United States.

Out-of-state authors and poets include Eva Shaw, Jack Driscoll, Jan Harper Haines, Pamela Houston, Allison Hedge Coke and Gary Ferguson.

The conference will offer daily workshops, craft talks, manuscript reviews, panel presentations and evening readings in fiction, non-fiction, poetry, the business of writing and more. Evening readings by conference faculty will be open to the general public at no charge.

The general conference fee, including luncheons, opening dinner presentation and workshops is $245 before May 12th; $295 after May 12th. Advance registration is required. One UAA academic credit is optionally offered for additional tuition of $112. For specific program and registration information call (907) 235-7743 or visit http://writersconference.homer.alaska.edu.

The conference’s major benefactors are ConocoPhillips Alaska, Anchorage Daily News, Alaska State Council on the Arts and the Kachemak Bay Campus Caroline Coons Writers’ Endowment. Sponsors include Alaska Airlines, Cook Inlet Book Co., Chilkoot Charlies, Era Aviation and others.
